Martin Luther King Jr Day started early Monday Morning at Manchester Center. The motto for the day was ” Make it a day on, not a day off.” HandOn Central California wanted to completely dedicate this day to acknowledge the hard work that Mr. King did for others. People were able to support this cause by volunteering their time. We had corporate volunteers such as Kaiser come package and distribute food to hundreds, along with dozens of community volunteers who supported Martin Luther King Jr Day.This day was full of activities, food distribution by the Community Food Bank to all local veterans and their families. A packaging of care packages for troops overseas put together by volunteers, followed by valentines decorated by children. HandsOn Central California passed out yellow ribbons for everyone to wear and show their support to all our local and oversea troops. Through out the day a volunteer fair took place where you could stop by various booths, Encourage Tomorrow, Boys and Girls Club, Hospice, Fresno Unified Mentoring, and a dozen more to choose from.
HandOn Central California also offered a special screening of, The Way We Get By, an inspiring documentary that shares the story of previous Veterans, and what they are doing to support the current soldiers fighting in this war. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a day on, not a day off!
